I have been using Open office for a few years now and I am constantly amazed at how cool Open Source software is.  Open Office works in windows, on the Mac, and of course Linux.  The plugin system is very similar to Firefox, you browse the plugins on the web and click to install them.  There are plugins for everything I could think to look for.  Check it out http://www.openoffice.org/
